In my opinion, some of these bugs should never exist in an official product release. Here is an example of the bugs fixed for Sonar 8 before 8.5 was released. I think I deserve a small rant after all the money I've shelled out followed by all the hair pulling and cursing.

But the product is most stable after a few maintenance updates. It's a complex application and I wouldn't expect it to be flawless. Some of them have involved basic features. A bug acknowledged by the manufacturer is a bug.

Sorry, but it is a fact that their software is often buggy when first released, especially with the earlier versions of Sonar. My experiences with the early releases of major versions have been frustrating. I can deal with the workarounds (doctor, it hurts when I do this.don't do that).

Cakewalk's posted lists of fixes for each update clearly spell it out, as does the Cakewalk forum. If the bugs don't bother you, more power to you. Were it not for that feature, I would have bailed long ago. I've stuck with them because Sonar is (or at least, was) one of the few products that support playlists. I've been with Cakewalk since version 1 for DOS. I'd go with that if you want a stable product (even though 8.5 still has plenty of bugs). Once the new buggy version is released, you can't buy the previous version to apply its latest update. The best time to purchase is after the last incremental update of any particular version.but you never know which update will be the last. You must risk the possibility that any existing bug that will affect you won't be fixed before the next major version release.

It's as if they use their customers as beta testers. The problem with Sonar (and Cakewalk) has been that each new major release is riddled with bugs.LOTS of bugs.LOTS and LOTS of MAJOR bugs. I'm currently using Sonar 8.5 and I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade.
